We welcome all the delegates that are a part of MEDMUN ‘24!

Honorable chairs, esteemed delegates, dear guests,

I am eager to welcome you in Menton next spring for the twelfth edition of the Mediterranean Model United Nations (MEDMUN). Gathering more than four hundred delegates, our conference is one of the largest and most diverse in the region. In fact, MEDMUN is the most multi-linguistic conference in the Mediterranean, where committee sessions are held in English, French, Arabic, Italian, Spanish, and Turkish. The diversity of our conference also comes from the backgrounds of our participants who join us from almost 70 different countries.

This diversity is key to the fruitfulness of our debates which aim to address the issues faced by both sides of the Mediterranean Sea. The Sea that is depicted by many scholars as a buffer zone between two Worlds but continues to see exchanges, tensions, and cooperations. Indeed, our campus's specialization region remains a convergence point of cultures, religions, ideas, and resources. A Model United Nations is, therefore, the occasion to immerse ourselves in the complexity of an area that is beginning to shape its own destiny with its proper resources and hindrances.

In the global climate crisis context, the MENA-Mediterranean region suffers from environmental obstacles. Water, fossils, and food are all factors of tensions imposing an important challenge to policymakers and diplomats. Taking into account the area's past, present, and future, MEDMUN aims to include these challenges in the agenda.

Conference aside, your stay in Menton will for sure surprise you. Lemons, warm sun, and even warmer people will make your trip a memory to never forget about.

With two parties, a welcome cocktail, and a closing buffet, MEDMUN is also the occasion to meet and network. Whether it is friends or connections, you will be able to meet people from all around the globe sharing your passion for diplomacy and debate, as well as your commitment to positively impact our planet's future.

Starting in October, you will be able to register as a Chair or as a Delegate in one of our seventeen committees encompassing a wide range of topics to suit your interests. You will be able to pick according to your level in order to be immersed in a comprehensive and fulfilling environment.

Hoping to welcome you and your different stories next spring. Diplomatically yours,

Othman BENJELLOUN
